For the past 35 years, I’ve been an entrepreneur, building tech startups from $0 to over $200M - including two IPOs, a few failures, and a journey that’s taken me to over 35 countries.
Looking back, one thing stands out across every success and setback - a culture based on Human Skills. The strongest companies had it. The weaker ones didn’t.
No matter how impressive a resume was, I would only hire someone if they had superior human skills - the kind AI can’t replicate:
- A person that persevered to get the job done - one that had grit and would simply not give up.
- A person of high integrity and empathy - one that had respect for others and the values of the company and the importance of culture.
- A person that could communicate clearly and effective with passion, purpose and confidence.
- A person that was curious by nature and used that tool to thrive at being a life long learner.
- A person that was a critical thinker - that would always critique and dissect problems as they would work to come up with a solution.
- A person that embraced change and was able to adapt to whatever came their way in the constantly changing world.
The people with these skills thrived. Those without them, didn’t.
Now, I’m focused on helping others develop these mandatory human skills - whether you're a student, a job seeker, a young professional, or a company building your future workforce.
Because in the AI age, it’s not just about keeping up. It’s about standing out.
